Chicago has its fair share of statues that ask us to remember an historic event/personage determined to be worthy of remembering.
Inevitably when I ride past a monument or memorial, my thought is “Who/What is that?” As a city of migrants and immigrants all looking to find their place, the answer in Chicago could come from anywhere. This map is an attempt to keep them all straight.
Once again, I have leaned heavily on the blog Chicago Public Art. If you are looking for information on a specific work, subject or artist, have a look there.
Each marker includes the artist, construction date, and a link to the story of the piece.
