Frequent spur of the moment brewery rides with friends got me thinking about being more systematic and ambitious.

For the most part The Chicago Cycling Brewery Map extends to breweries located 50 miles from Chicago public transport, a mid point libation for round trip “century” riders.  I have included the Milwaukee area breweries for those who want to do the 100 miles there and grab the evening Haiwatha Amtrak back to Chicago. Chicagoans, suburbanites, and tourists will hopefully find the map of some use.

The breweries are divided into two general categories based on cycling related needs – time, food, and potential beer quality.

The map is not critical.  The adventure is having your own brewery experience turn out to be good, bad or mediocre, right?   A look at a brewery’s website usually lets you know what you are dealing with.

  • Brewery Restaurants have food (pizzas, sandwiches…), typically open lunch hours (11:00-) and have a wider range in beer quality.
  • Brewery Taprooms often allow you to bring in/order in food, open later on weekdays (3:00-) and have nothing else to do but beer. (snacks and “pizzas” possible)
Note: It’s a good idea to check if a brewery is still open before you head out. I will be updating this map regularly (most recent 9/2020), but if you know of any closings/openings let me know and I’ll update it.
Find this map with the Suburban Metra Trains and Amtrak (plus other points of interest) on The Map  or contact me for a guided bike tour that includes these locations.
