First German Baptist Church (Ersten Deutsche Baptisten Kirche -1888) 1658 West Superior St.  Today it houses condos.

As religious congregations have shrunk with societal changes, Chicago has found new uses for the specialized structures that remain.

I have included only churches that have been converted to nonreligious uses.  Some take up entire corners.  Others a simple house sized lot.  Many built well over 100 years ago. I have labeled them with the oldest name (out of many) I could find.

The information included in the markers:

  • Date of building
  • Architect if I could find it
  • Present day use
  • Date converted
  • Link for more information
Find this map with other points of interest on The Map or contact me for a guided bike tour that includes these locations.
